According to Statistics Estonia, 983 units of housing received permits for use in Estonia in Q3 2015. These are some of the highest levels in the past five years, more than double the number of permits for use a year ago. At the same time, the floor area of housing completed was 98 600 m². This is 81% above last year’s levels.
The above figures suggest that the housing development market is active. Behind this activity is the development of apartments, whose floor areas are smaller compared to single-family or terraced houses. This has caused a smaller increment in the floor area of housing.
Given the brisk issuance of building permits for housing and the continued actual commencement of construction on new projects, it is not hard to predict that the number of permits for use will continue to grow apace over the coming quarters.
